Adults -FAQ's

1Will I get hurt?
Any physical activity can lead to injury - and Applied Wing Chun is no exception - but because we place such care in keeping your safety. We hardly EVER see any injuries here. We guide you through the perfect way to do each technique. That way you don't do it in a way that harms your body. We also show you how to stretch properly - reducing your chances for injury even more. And you go at your own pace. That way you don't force your body to do anything it isn't capable of. Students who pick up on Applied Wing Chun quickly are just as valued as the ones who need to slow down, and learn at a different pace.
2 Is it violent?
People who practise Applied Wing Chun are never the ones to start fights. They're the ones who do everything in their power to avoid fights. But if a fight has to happen, they're ready and confident to defend themselves. So no, Applied Wing Chun is not violent.
3How many people are in a group class?
Classes will range between 15-30 people. The larger the class, the more instructors to help out.
4Will there be other beginners in my class?
Absolutely. There are always beginners in class. Plus, the advanced students are always eager to help you get you on your way!
5Will you help me with my nutritional habits?
Not only do we cover nutrition tips in class, you can schedule a personal appointment with an instructor to cover your specific questions.
6 Will your classes help me tone up?
The combination of cardio, resistance training and proper diet (which we will help you with!) will help you to tone up very quickly.
7How many classes per week should I attend?
We have classes 5 days a week so the amount of classes you take is based on your own personal schedule. Most of our members train about 1-3 times per week and see great results.
8Do I need to ‘get in shape’ before I start your classes?
A common misunderstanding is that you need to be ‘in shape’ before starting any martial arts training. This is completely false. Our classes are designed to allow our members to train ‘at their own pace’ while at the same time, giving the advanced student the opportunity to challenge themselves.

Kids - FAQ's

1Will Kung Fu make my kid violent?
Absolutely not! We don’t teach kids how to kick and punch so they can go down the street and beat up the neighbour’s kid. Instead, we teach kids self-defence as a tool for personal growth and development. Kids learn to treat others as they want to be treated. They learn to respect all living things – from their parents to pets. Often, kids who were violent before they joined our class changed, and became non-violent. So no, Kung Fu won’t make your child violent!
2What if my child’s not athletic? Will he have a hard time?
Often children who don’t find success in team sports come to Martial Arts. And they love it. That’s because with Kung Fu you go at your own pace. See, team sports actually harm the self-esteem of children who aren’t very athletic. When they don’t perform well, the other kids can be pretty nasty. And this can leave some serious scars on their self-esteem. But with Martial Arts, they can’t let anyone down. Everyone goes at their own pace. Some kids learn quicker than others – but the children who advance quickly are not valued more than the kids who advance slowly. Everyone is greatly encouraged – regardless of his or her athletic level.
3What age is appropriate for Kung Fu?
We have programs for kids who are 6 years old all the way to teenagers. And we even have programs for adults.
4Will my child get hurt?
I’ve had children come to my program for years without ever obtaining a single injury. The instructors pay attention to detail when it comes to safety. From padded floors, to proper gear, to step-by- step instruction – we do everything in our power to insure your child’s safety. That’s because we take your child’s safety very seriously.
5Is Kung Fu just for boys? Or can my girl learn Kung Fu too?
There are just as many girls in many of our classes as there are boys. Girls love Kung Fu just as much, and get the same fulfillment out of it as boys do. Also, if I’ve learned anything in my years of teaching, it’s that girls are just as tough as boys. Many are even tougher! So you don’t have to worry about your little girl getting hurt, or feeling scared because she’ll be practicing with boys. In fact, the boys may even be the ones who are scared.
